Aye Aye 1/16/20

When you see Aye Aye you might start thinking about pirates, but today I will talk about a lemur known as the Aye Aye. The Aye Aye is relatively small and are kind of creepy.

Know you might be thinking that it is just a creepy lemur. Well… it kind of is, but there are some special things about it. Aye Ayes are the largest nocturnal primate, and they have interesting hands. Their hands are very specialized for gripping things and being able to catch their prey (which are insects). Also, they have a small pseudo-thumb just beneath their main thumb.

Overall I think that Aye Ayes are creepy but very interesting.

Anyway thank you for reading my blog posts. However this may be my last one.

Bobbit Worms 1/15/20

Today I will talk about Bobbit Worms. These are a creature that, honestly, terrifies me. Even though it is so scary, i still think that it is very interesting.

The Bobbit Worm is a type of worm (duh), specifically a bristle worm, that lives in oceans. Bobbit Worms can grow to ten feet long and are omnivorous. They dig borrows in the ground and wait for fish to pass by.

These worms may be scary, but it’s unlikely that it will kill you. The Bobbit Worm is nocturnal but, it will give you a nasty bite is you get close. It probably won’t kill you but this worm still seriously scares me.

Anyway, thank you for reading my blog posts.

Glaucus Atlanticus 1/14/20

Today I will talk about the Glaucus Atlanticus which is also known as the Blue Glaucus or the Blue Dragon. The Blue Glaucus is a type of sea slug that lives in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans in tropical areas, and I think that it is a very beautiful creature.

Not only is the Blue Glaucus beautiful but it also has a very interesting defense mechanism. Although the Blue Glaucus does not produce its own venom it is able to sting any predators that touch it. The Blue Glaucus’s favorite prey is the Portuguese Man o’ War and when they eat the Portuguese Man o’ War then it is able to consume stinging cells so that they can be used later to protect itself. So, you don want to touch it unless you want to get painfully stung.

Tardigrades 1/13/20

You may have heard the term Water Bear before. That is another name for the Tardigrade. For people who don’t know what a tardigrade is it is a small, near microscopic organism. A tardigrade looks like this;

Tardigrades are often known as ‘the toughest animal on earth’ and this is true to some extent. The Tardigrade is known as the only animal that can survive in the vacuum of space. These tiny creatures, which are about a millimeter in length, have done some extraordinary feats.

However, these creatures don’t wouldn’t survive if you just threw it in the vacuum of space. To survive these situations a tardigrade will form into a tun. It will practically turn itself into a dry husk. When in this state they can survive nearly anything. On the other hand they have to have water to get out of their tun form. Also, when they are out of their tun they can still survive radiation but they aren’t very hard to kill.

Thank you for reading my blog posts.

Planarians 1/10/20

As I mentioned before in my previous blog post planarians are some of my favorite animals. In my opinion they are very interesting and very freaky.

You might be thinking “What’s so interesting, it’s just a worm.” well, you see Planarians are worms with extreme regenerative abilities. These worms can regrow their entire body from just 1/279th of its body, Which means it can regrow its brain. not only that but the planarian will still retain memories. Also their there regeneration means that they don’t age.

There is a way to kill to kill them though. Enough radiation can kill a planarian. However, if one planarian is going to die then a single cell transplant from another planarian can save it. It’s so hard to kill something that is “Just a worm.”

Anyway, thank you for reading my blog posts.

P.S. Planarians can also die of diseases, being squashed, and possibly, being burned.

Though, I may have some interesting facts about animals that a lot of people know about. I will talk about animals that I personally find either freaky, interesting or both such as planaria.

Which in my opinion are some of the more interesting animals out there.

Anyway, thank you for looking at my blog posts.
